There are not many summits in the world that have such a beautiful and recognizable silhouette as Ama Dablam. It is not as high as Mount Everest but it inspires respect and is extremely popular with mountaineers and tourists. Living near the mount Sherpa people and the Tibetans are also fascinated by its beauty and it was them who gave it the name which in translation means “Mother’s jewel”. It is because a glacier seen on the Southwest side looks like “Dablam”- a sacred necklace worn by Sherpa women. The summit is a symbol of an entire Khumbu region and lies in the centre of the Khumbu valley.
Although the mountain is by more or less one-fourth lower than Mount Everest, climbers who succeeded in summiting it are very proud of their achievement. Climbing Ama Dablam needs a lot of effort and technical skills that is why mountaineers should have some previous climbing experience. The way up is difficult and leads through steep ice and rock South-West Ridge. No matter how beautiful it is, it demands strength and endurance.
